Measurements of engineering surfaces in the machine shop environment are at times inaccurate and incomplete, not only because of environmental causes but also because of design limitations in the measuring equipment. If several new techniques in the area of microprocessors and micromechanical systems are combined, a more complete and accurate description of the surfaces can be obtained.
