A study was performed to determine if epithelial thickness increases in association with corneal edema induced by wearing soft contact lenses and eye closure. One eye of 20 healthy non contact lens wearers was patched during 3 hours of soft contact lens (SCL) wear and the contralateral eye acted as control. Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) measurements of corneal and epithelial thickness of both eyes were taken before and after SCL wear. The resultant data were analyzed in detail.
