摘要
Against a background of the successful application of gas-cleaning technologies in the UK nuclear industry, the author surveys the current techniques being used in the UK for the separation of solids, removal of liquids and gaseous separation, inculding some recent significant developments. The author indicates that the application of gas-cleaning technology in the nuclear industry in the UK has been very successful. Environmentally, gaseous and airborne discharges in normal operation are controlled to trivial levels and no significant discharges have resulted from faults since Windscale in 1957. Gaseous waste management (unlike solids or even liquids) is not therefore an issue. The current approach of maintaining a balanced R&D programme with application-specific and speculative generic work has served us well and we should continue to support such programs in the future.
