Study on the inclusion complex of amoxicillin and β-cyclodextrin

OBJECTIVE: The inclusion complex of amoxicillin/β-cyclodextrin was investigated to improve the performance of the amoxicillin preparation. METHODS: In aqueous solution, the inclusion complex of amoxicillin/β-cyclodextrin was studied by Ultraviolet Spectroscopy and phase solubility. The inclusion complex was prepared by trituration and was confirmed by DTA and X-ray diffraction. The dissolution rates of amoxicillin and inclusion complex were compared. RESULTS: In aqueous solution, inclusion complex easily formed between amoxicillin and β-cyclodextrin. In the presence of 6.16 × 10 -3 mol &middot L-1 β-cyclodextrin, the solubility of inclusion complex was 3.89 times than that of amoxicillin. The dissolution rate in 10 minutes was 8.2 times as much as that of amoxicillin. CONCLUSION: The solubility and dissolution of amoxicillin were improved with β-cyclodextrin.
