LOW-PRESSURE PULSED CO2 LASER AND ITS USE FOR SCRIBING PYROCERAMIC PLATES.

It is pointed out that the principal advantages of the pyroceramic scribing operation are due to the use of pulsed lasers, operating with short-duration, high-frequency pulses. An experimental investigation of the conditions for the working of the pyroceramic plates with a 0. 5 mm thickness showed that for a heat flux density of q equals 5 multiplied by 10**4 W/cm**2 and a velocity of v equals 0. 5 cm/sec for the heat source the crack forms spontaneously and proceeds along the delineated scribe. By cleaving the plates along the scribe it is possible to produce surfaces with a complicated shape.
