This paper describes the solution a Swedish mill found to problems that arise - picking and mottle - when a high solids coating is applied at the size press. This work suggests that a sudden injection of heat should be applied to the coating as soon as possible after application, and it throws an interesting light on the theory of coating immobilisation.
