At the National Chemical Laboratory for Industry (NCLI) in Japan, two types of thermochemical cycles were studied for the first period of the Sunshine Project (1974-1980). The main cycles, Ca-I or Mg-I cycles, were studied in order to construct a bench scale continuous hydrogen producing plant, whereas the research on sulfur cycles was performed in order to develop new promising cycles for producing hydrogen.
