WOOD AND PROCESS-INDEPENDENT PARAMETER FOR MEASURING THE EFFICACY OF ANTHRAQUINONE-LIKE ADDITIVES IN SODA PULPING.

A test method to measure the efficacy of additives working by the same mechanism as anthraquinone in soda pulping is presented. The method proposed yields two process-and wood-independent parameters. One parameter (r//o) characterizes the increase in delignification rate, the other parameter (v//o) the enhancement of the carbohydrate stabilization reaction. The proposed test method is based on kinetic reasoning, which led to the prediction that the effect is proportional to the square root of the additive charge.
