This article focuses on the development of the MB-HT 100 (Mitsubishi Bainitic Steel), a low-carbon weldable 2. 5% Ni-Cr-Mo-V steel with 100 kg/mm**2 ultimate tensile strength. The 40 mm thick plates produced at Wakayama Steel Works employing the special heat treatment exhibited an excellent combination of strength and toughness. Since the yield strength of this material was as low as 85 kg/mm**2, the large uniform elongation 5% was easily obtained.
