摘要
Over the past 16 years, environmental considerations, such as the need for less polluting fuels for industry, have spearheaded the development of processes for liquefying natural gas and petroleum gas - products which had previously been flared by oil producers as being a little economic value - and the transportation of these liquids in highly specialized vessels, so much so that these vessels now form an integral part of the world energy transport picture. At the same time, the technology for the transfer of liquefied natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas from shore to ship (and vice versa) and for storing the cargo at shore-based installations has developed apace. This article looks at some of the problems which have been involved in the handling of these cargoes at loading and unloading terminals, in particular, the safety aspects, those resulting from the cargo transfer of cryogenic or low temperature liquids, and storage problems.
