The inter-relations between vehicle and track can be described in terms of transfer functions, indicating how the various geometry components contribute to a given response component of the vehicle. In conventional approaches use is made of mathematical models, based on a schematization according to masses, springs and dampers. As a rule, the predictive merits of such models turn out to be small, due to the impossibility of accurately determining the model parameters. The method described in this article starts from measured geometry signals (inputs) and a corresponding response signal of the vehicle (output), between which transfer functions are established with the aid of the MISO method (Multiple Input, Single Output). This method is based on the theory of random signal analysis and, as far as the application to the interaction between vehicle and track is concerned, it was suggested for the first time left bracket 1 right bracket . In addition, this article presents a possible solution for a real dynamic measurement of Q and Y forces through MISO, using measuring wheelsets.
