摘要
The accuracy of digital time measurements limited by two factors: error in quantizing and error in comparing. Both types of errors are examined concerning their magnitudes as function of the duration of the measured signal and the effect of averaged time internal measurement to increase the accuracy is discussed. The extent of quantizing error reduction as function of averaging factor in dependence of the type of the measured and measuring signal periodicity is examined. Calculations are extended to the case when the measured interval also changes statistically - i. e. due to uncertain comparison. Comparison error reduction is dealt with as function of averaging factor. Based on the results, specifications for the time interval measuring device are determined.
