Accurate measurement of laser-driven shock trajectories with velocity interferometry

A high precision measurement of shock velocity and shock trajectory using a variation of the velocity interferometer system for any reflector technique is demonstrated. This demonstration show that the technique has a strong potential for improving the understanding of high pressure shock transformations in transparent materials. The technique measures shock velocity with 1% accuracy and shock trajectory with &plusmn0.2 μm.
