A stochastic self-tuning regulator was designed and applied to control the dissolved oxygen concentration in an activated sludge pilot plant located at Environment Canada's Wastewater Technology Centre in Burlington, Ontario, Minimum variance control was achieved when controlling the dissolved oxygen concentration at 2 mg L-1 by real-time computer manipulation of the air flow rate.
