Concept of utilization of substances with low temperatures of boiling for generation of electric energy in turbine-driven generators was known within period of more than 50 years. The first binary cycle power plants was created in 1967 in former USSR. For the first time, electric energy was generated with the use hot geothermal water. Temperature of the water was less than 100°C. Freon was evaporated under action of heat of the water and was used in turbine-driven generator. However, coefficient of heat transfer of freon is less than that of water and water steam. Other working bodies are investigated. New binary cycle power plant was recently constructed in Germany, and pentane was used as the working body.
