摘要：
Five major technologies used to convert electrical data into some sort of digital readout are described. The devices considered are light-emitting diodes, gas-discharge devices, liquid-crystal readouts, fluorescent tubes, and incandescent displays. The devices are compared with respect to such characteristics as power consumption, operating temperature range, life, size, and color.
