The node method for hydraulic network analysis was studied by several researchers with different ways of handling the nonlinearities present in the head-loss equations, but convergence problems were continuously observed. The hybrid element formulation is a definite way to overcome this problem. The formulation should be incorporated in governing equations when an element with very low resistance is present on the network. This formulation assures that the nodal heads and the element flows are calculated to the desired degree of accuracy.
