Mechanical Monitoring and Maintenance of Rotary Kilns and Coolers.

Preventive measures for obviating malfunction of kiln and cooler are dealt with in this article. Methods and equipment for checking the kiln alignment and, if necessary, for correcting it are described. All the measures can be applied while the plants is in operation. The same is true of the measurement of tyre and supporting roller diameters, the machining (turning to size) of tyres and rollers, the measurement of the axial loading on the bearings of the rollers, the functional checking of the guide system the measurement and elimination of kiln shell warping the checking of welds for fatigue, etc. In each case appropriate measures for correcting these defects and repairing damage are indicated.
