摘要
Evidence for segregation of boron to grain boundaries and surfaces in iron and AISI 316 stainless steel was sought from the effect of boron additions on the energies of these interfaces. Boron was found to reduce the interfacial energies in a similar manner to many other solutes of low solubility. The relevance of interfacial energy measurements to fracture properties is discussed in the light of these results.
