In view of the projected use of liquid alkali metals as coolants in nuclear reactors, the mechanisms of the mutual effects of alkali metal melts and solid metallic materials, the corrosion problems in industrial liquid metal circuits, and the effect of liquid-metal corrosion on reactor design are summarized.
