The computer is in control at the five plants of Morinaga & Co. , Ltd. , Japan's largest producer of confectionery products. The role played by plant engineering and maintenance in this highly automated manufacturing environment is examined in this article. Subjects covered include plant engineering activities and responsibilities, machinery maintenance, work order forms, quality circles, and others.
