The insulation system of an electromagnet capable of producing magnetic fields of high intensity (6T) used for testing superconductors at cryogenic temperatures is presented. An apparatus of a new Italian design made for an international consortium is described. The article offers details about the design of the apparatus, the materials employed, the cycle of impregnation and baking of the insulating material, and the results obtained. The device has been in operation since 1983.
