Viscosity is the most important factor in selecting fluids to transmit power, lubricate and seal moving parts, remove heat or protect against corrosion. Viscosity index, the amount of relative change in viscosity for a given change in temperature is also critical, and compared in chart form for various oils. The influence of pressure, temperature, pour point, oxidation, etc, is also described.
