The Ford Graphics System is the major vehicle for CAD/CAM activities at Ford Motor Company. There are over 250 Ford-system work stations in operation, and new stations are being installed at the rate of two per week. By 1987, the authors indicate 90% of all design work at Ford will be done with the direct aid of computer graphics, most of it using the Ford system. A recently implemented version of the system based on distributed processing with centralized data control and shared-resource management is discussed.
