The stall condition at the lower flow rate and the stall margin of diagonal flow rotors could be improved with the help of a leading edge skewed-swept diagonal flow rotors. The structure and the evolvement process of the tip edge shedding vortex of an open skewed-swept diagonal flow rotor by using PIV technology were measured. The results showed that the shedding vortex emerged near the tip edge of the blade, and extended to the downstream of the rotor in a slant line opposite to the rotor rotation direction. The intensity of the tip shedding vortex was boosted up with the increase of the rotation speed and decreased with the increase of the background pressure. The tip shedding vortex disappeared when the background pressure was increased to a certain degree. The experimental results provided the important data of internal flow for the optimization, the noise reduction and application of the leading edge skewed-swept diagonal flow rotors on the outdoor unit of the centralized air conditioners.
