Nanocomposites of PT/SiO2 have been successfully prepared by two step hydrolysis of Si(OC2H5)4 using PT ultrafine powders derived from the sol-gel technique as a dispersed active component. The influence of processing on the hydrolysis-polymerization condition has been investigated. A rapid gelation method has been developed. Structure changes were analyzed by means of DTA, XRD and optical absorption spectra. The third order nonlinear susceptibility of PT/SiO2 nanocomposite was measured.
