摘要
The ratio of local and diffusional mechanism of relaxation of excess free volume in amorphous polymers is discussed. On the basis of ideas on the finite lifetime of holes, a model is formulated for the relaxation of volume in accordance with a diffusional mechanism. The diffusion mechanism can be important for the volume relaxation of specimens of linear dimensions of the same order as the (D tau )**0**. **5 value, where tau is the lifetime of a hole, and D is the effective diffusion coefficient, i. e. the contribution of the diffusional mechanism to the mechanism of relaxation depends on the specimen size.
