The aim of this work was to study the relationships governing the sorption of H//2PtCl//6 on unmodified gamma -Al//2O//3 and the effect of the contribution from the ion exchange and ligand substitution mechanisms on the strength of the obtained platinum-support bond. It is found that an increase in the sorption time and sorption temperature leads to an increase in the contribution from the ligand substitution mechanism in the platinum deposition process. The introduction of a competing adsorbate changes the ratio of the contributions from the ion exchange and ligand substitution mechanisms. The formation of a strong platinum-support bond depends on the degree of substitution of chloride ions in the left bracket PtCl//6 right bracket **2** minus anion by the OH** minus groups of the support.
