For the synchronized message transfer between parallel computing processes the author presents a method suited for small microcomputer networks in process control and laboratory automation. It uses mail-boxes and allows the realization of flexible dynamic synchronization structures. Individual procedures for line control may be incorporated via a simple interface. On this base a distributed real-time operating system for microcomputers was implemented by means of the microprocessor U880.
