Limit analysis is described as a useful analytical tool which presents meaningful results relying on statics and geometry alone and without reference to the elastic or plastic material properties of the material being used. This paper examines the limiting condition of an arch segment of length a, weight per unit length w, and thickness t, resting against a frictionless wall at an angle theta to the horizontal. This orientation of a stone is not uncommon in voussoir arches.
