By dehydrating precipitated oxide hydrates and subsequent heat treatment at temperatures between 400 and 1480 degree C Fe//2O//3 oxide materials with different properties were obtained. Both electron micrographs and measurements of specific surface area showed that a marked sintering of samples occurs, particularly between 500 and 700 degree C. Solution experiments carried out in azeotropic HCl revealed that the severe decrease of the dissolved component with the temperature of heat treatment is due to the decrease of surface area.
