Characteristics of acid steelmaking processes have been considered. It has been shown that acid slag containing large amount of SiO2 is characterized by low gas permeability. This makes it possible to reduce contents of nitrogen, oxygen, and hydrogen in steel. Low content of non-metallic inclusions is also provided. High mechanical properties of the steel are noted. Heat conduction of acid slag is low. In connection with this, loss of electric energy in electric arc furnace is also low. Service life of acid bottom is high. Such factors allow steelmakers to reduce production costs and to improve efficiency of steelmaking.
