The appearance of an emf (electromotive force) in the contact of coal with carbonaceous rocks (argillite and aleurolite) in aqueous solutions of electrolytes differing in their pH values has been shown under model conditions. The change in emf as a function of the pH of the electrolyte and of the temperature has been investigated. It is demonstrated that the intensity of these processes and, consequently, the emf and the discharge current depend on the physicochemical properties and composition of the solutions bathing the electrodes. Quantitative characteristics of the influence of the pH of the medium on the change in the redox properties of the coal-carbonaceous rocks systems have been determined.
