During the summer of 1987, attorneys who represented the Association of Metropolitan Sewerage Agencies (AMSA) commented on liability issues facing wastewater treatment agencies today. In order to provide some focus for them, four categories of issues were identified; operations and maintenance, regulation, capital improvement, and human resources. The article discusses the results of these comments. In addition, the article discusses ways to reduce an agency's exposure to liability, including a 10-point check list as an example of such measures.
