Every utility should be prepared for emergencies. The first step is to analyze the existing system, the possible emergencies that could occur, and the amount of water needed. The components that would be needed to overcome any shortfalls (critical components) must be determined. Eighteen components of an emergency operations plan are suggested. © 1984 American Water Works Association.
