New basic expressions for evaluating the volume of air for the development working face as a function of the gas formed during blasting are derived that are free of the shortcomings of the common standard formulas. The method allows determining the required volume of air for ventilation and eliminates uncertainty in standards that is present in calculations based on 'critical length'. It minimizes the amount of air required for safe ventilation of a working of any length with any quantity of explosive, allowing the use of ventilation with minimal but adequate performance.
