Numerical calculation was carried out on light scattering by the randomly oriented spheroidal particles with the imaginary part of the refractive index in the range of 0.001 to 0.1 for several size parameters. Absorption properties were analysed and compared with those of the equivalent spherical partials. Results show that there are differences between the absorption properties of the spheroidal and spherical particles, and the differences vary with shape, size and refractive index of the particle. In consideration of measurement accuracy of aerosol absorption, the treatment of the nonspherical particle scattering with equivalent spherical particle will not induce obvious error.
