This study reports the results of experiments on the dispersion of an aggregated dust by the action of a gas flowing at high velocity through an orifice. In particular, it is shown that an aggregated dust can be successfully dispersed by an orifice, and that the reproducibility of the particle-size distribution of the dispersed dust is very good. If the energy of dissipation of the gas flow in a thin-diameter pipe is used as the parameter expressing the magnitude of the dispersing effect of the orifice, an empirical equation can be derived which gives the particle size of the dispersed dust.
