Computer have been developed to calculate the melt temperature, thermal profile, and melt depths for the laser welding of thermoplastic. The melt depth is defined as a region from the weld center where its temperature exceeds the melting temperature of the polymer. Laser welding of thermoplastic offers distinct advantages and performance capabilities such as speed, localized heat, and fine spot size over the traditional plastics welding methods. Laser welding can be applied to a wide range of thermoplastic polymers.
