In the case of the newest system for navigation over land, water and air - the Navstar Global Positioning System (GPS) - the known points are not stationary but the orbital parameters of the satellites in the system are known precisely, which enables the user to determine the position of each satellite at any given time. Signal processing techniques, discussed in this article, are the key to millimeter-level accuracies.
