A study was made of stripe domains in a nematic liquid crystal of MBBA which originally had a homotropic orientation in a transverse electric field. Measurements were made of the static threshold voltages of samples with different dimensions, of the frequency dependences of alternating threshold voltages, and also of the domain period as a function of the thickness of the sample. The domains observed in weak fields were attributed to a superposition of nonthreshold and threshold flexoelectric strains.
