Study of Time Characteristics of Arrivals and Departures at Five Large Italian Stations.

The use of a method for analytical interpretation of daily distributions of departures and arrivals of passenger trains at five stations of the Italian State Railroads network on the basis of time tables is examined. A comparison with the findings of Westphal for five stations of the West German railroads network is carried out. The method investigated is based on harmonic analysis. Approximating functions are given which describe arrival and departure times with an error rate of 1%.
