The charging of hydrogen, oxygen, and carbon dioxide gas bubbles in various electrolytes was studied by measuring the bubble rise potential. The gas bubbles acquire a negative charge whose magnitude is determined by the ζ-potential and by the hydrodynamic and diffusion phenomena on the bubble surface and in the electrolyte. Limitations of the proposed method of charge evaluation at the gas-solution interface are considered.
