The final properties of corrugated paperboards depend on their strength characteristics and on the mechanical properties of their paper layers. This article reviews some popular methods of testing papers used for manufacturing corrugated paperboards and finished corrugated paperboards. The review includes the ring crush, crush liner, ShortSpan compression, corrugated crush, Concora medium, puncture energy, flat crush, edgewise crush and 4-point bending stiffness tests. Burst compression and some other tests are suggested for testing corrugated paperboard boxes. Pin adhesion, free phenol content and other tests are used to evaluate the quality of adhesives used in the production of corrugated paperboards.
