Measurement of two-dimensional temperature distribution in water using acoustooptic interaction

A method of realizing two-dimensional temperature distribution in water by means of optical Fourier transform is described. Using this method, the water temperature distribution is obtained from a small spatial domain where an ultrasonic beam perpendicularly intersects a laser beam. The temperatures are measured at 64 points in a 28×28 mm2 region. The error of measurement is within 1 °C. The present method can be applied to measurements of concentration or density, because in this method, the water temperature is obtained from the acoustic wave velocity.
