SHORE TANK MEASUREMENT.

As petroleum products pass from the initial supply point to the final user, they pass a number of points at which the quantity of product is measured. The stock accounting data comes from either static measurements on storage tanks or dynamic measurements in pipelines. The basis of all the static measurements of oil products is the calibration of the storage tanks in which they are contained. No bulk quantity in a container can be determined with a precision greater than that in the calibration of that container. This paper reviews the techniques available for tank calibration and indicates their relative merits and disadvantages.
