The author discusses results of extensive tests which show that chemical inhibitor leaches out of primer when pinhole defects develop in coating, and guards against establishment of cracking conditions. Sections through pipe line steel stress-corrosion specimens tested at various applied potentials and coated with either conventional primer or a leach primer are illustrated.
