The main issues of the usefulness of aids for the disabled were studied. The study was begun by acquiring information concerning the personal capabilities of the disabled, the nature of the disability and its psychosomatic affects. Then the need for aids was judged and the aids were evaluated. There were 46 disabled people taking part in the program. The study of the aids' usefulness was approached from an omniscientific point of view, especially so with expensive electronic equipment. This approach was emphasized in negotiations, where experts talked about patients' needs and suggested actions to solve specific requirements. The experimental laboratory that was set up was found very valuable, because it is necessary to test the electronic control systems individually before purchase. It is also of great importance to study the home environment of the disabled person. Several suggestions for improving the applicability of the aids are presented.
