The country's first dual-purpose plant for the coating of wide strip steel has been brought into operation ahead of schedule at the British Steel Corporation's Shotton Works. The hot dip coating line has been designed to produce over 200,000 tonnes a year of Galvatite, traditional galvanized strip, and Zalutite, an aluminum/zinc coated product. Both Galvatite and Zalutite are used mainly in the construction and automotive industries including a high proportion as the base material for organic coated products, Colorcoat and Stelvetite.
