摘要：
In its current stage of development, the expert system is geared to clarifying the important question as to whether substitution of a fibre-reinforced plastic component for a load-bearing metallic component of industrial plant or machinery is an economic proposition. The approach to problem-solving described in this article shows that this type of expert system can furnish effective assistance to the designer in selecting new materials.
